เภสัชกร มีหน้าที่ช่วยเหลือผู้ป่วยด้วยการสั่งจ่ายยาเพื่อการรักษา เภสัชกรมีเป้าหมายเพื่อช่วยเหลือผู้ป่วยในการรักษา บรรเทาอาการเจ็บป่วย เนื่องจากมีการพัฒนาตัวยาใหม่ๆอยู่ตลอดเวลา ดังนั้น เภสัชกรต้องทราบข้อมูลการรักษา ชนิดยาต่างๆอย่างลึกซึ้ง เพื่อให้ทราบว่าตัวยาเหล่านี้ทำงานในร่ายกายของมนุษย์อย่างไร และทำปฏิกิริยากับยาและอาหาร อื่นๆอย่างไร

- เตรียมยาโดยการอ่านทบทวนและทำความเข้าใจคำสั่งของแพทย์
- จ่ายยาโดยการผสม บรรจุและติดฉลากผลิตภัณฑ์ยา

- ปฏิบัติตามกฏหมายยาของรัฐและสหพันธรัฐที่ควบคุมและกำหนดโดยสภาเภสัชกรรมของรัฐ หน่วยปราบปรามยาเสพติด และ องค์การอาหารและยาโดยการตรวจสอบติดตามหน่วยงานพยาบาล รักษาการบันทึกข้อมูลสารควบคุม กำจัดยาที่หมดอายุและเสียหายออกจากคลังยา ตรวจสอบผลการทำงานของเจ้าหน้าที่ฝ่ายสนับสนุน รักษาการจดทะเบียนปัจจุบัน
- รักษาข้อกฏหมายที่มีอยู่และข้อกฏหมายใหม่รวมถึงข้อกฏหมายที่อาจเกิดขึ้นในอนาคต การจัดการการให้คำแนะนำกับวิธีปฏิบัติที่แนะนำ
- ปกป้องผู้ป่วยและช่างเทคนิคโดยการปฏิบัติตามนโยบายและระเบียบการควบคุมการติดเชื้ออย่างเคร่งครัด
